Markdown Editor – Free Online Tool

Write Markdown and see the live preview side by side. Export to HTML.

How to Use the Markdown Editor

  1. Write or paste Markdown: Type in the left pane. Headings, lists, links, tables, code blocks and blockquotes are all supported.
  2. Watch the live preview: The right pane re-renders as you type, so you can see exactly how the formatting resolves.
  3. Copy the HTML: Click Copy HTML to put the rendered markup on your clipboard, ready to paste into a CMS or email template.
  4. Download your work: Save the source as a .md file or the rendered output as a standalone .html file.

Why Use This Tool?

  • Side-by-side preview: No switching between edit and preview modes - you see both at once.
  • Completely private: Your document never leaves the browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, logged or saved on a server.
  • No account needed: Open the page and start typing. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.
  • Clean HTML output: The exported markup has no wrapper divs or editor-specific classes, so it drops cleanly into other systems.

Common Use Cases

  • Draft a README before committing it to a repository
  • Write documentation or release notes and export them as HTML
  • Convert Markdown notes into formatted content for a blog or CMS
  • Check how a Markdown table or nested list will actually render
  • Prepare formatted text for a static site generator

Good to Know

  • Rendering follows the CommonMark and GitHub-flavoured Markdown rules; some site-specific extensions will not be recognised.
  • Documents are held in memory only - refreshing or closing the tab clears the editor, so download anything you want to keep.
  • Raw HTML you type inside the Markdown is passed through to the preview as written.
